FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What can I expect during laser hair removal treatment?
Treatments take place in our office with your comfort in mind. The treatment begins with a thorough cleanse of the skin and touch up of any hairs that may have been missed while shaving. As the treatment begins, a small handpiece is used to deliver an intense but gentle burst of energy onto targeted areas of the skin. Therapeutic heat then safely and effectively removes unwanted hair. Post treatment, an application of aloe vera is used to soothe the skin prior to rebooking your next appointment.

Is Gentle Hair Removal safe for darker skin tones?
Yes! Other laser hair removal treatments may not cater to all skin types, but there are no restrictions to skin tone with the GentleMax Pro. Discuss your skin type and treatment details with your technician to find out more information.

How long does a treatment take?
A treatment can be as little as a few minutes to as long as an hour, depending on the treatment area and the condition being treated.

Is laser hair removal painful?
Some client may feel slight discomfort, which has been compared to snapping a rubber band against the skin or a slight zapping sensation. This discomfort resolves quickly and is minimized by our patented Dynamic Cooling Device.

How many treatments will I need?
Multiple treatments are required to achieve the full hair removal effect. That’s because hair grows in three stages: Anagen (the growth stage), Catagen (the transitional stage) and Telogen (the shedding stage). The hairs on your body are not always at the same stage which requires a few treatments to catch them all in the growth stage. Most clients require between 6-8 treatments on an average of 4-6 weeks apart. Hormonal fluctuations and imbalances may affect the number of treatments you require. Your technician will discuss the details of your treatment with you prior to your first appointment to manage expectations.

How do I prepare for a laser hair removal treatment?
Discontinue use of any exfoliating agents such as hydroquinone, retinol and glycolic acid products seven days prior to your appointment. On the day of your treatment, skin should be clean-shaven and thoroughly cleansed of any makeup, creams, oils, topical anesthetics or self-tanning products. Always apply SPF30+ while outdoors prior to your treatment to avoid tanning the treatment area. Do not expose the treatment area to direct sunlight or tanning booth lights prior to or immediately after the treatment. If you have a history of herpes simplex virus (cold sores), a prophylactic antiviral therapy may be required prior to treatment.

What can I expect after the treatment?
A cool compress may be applied for additional comfort after your treatment. Any redness, swelling or follicle irritation should resolve in a few hours after treatment.

What precautions should I take after treatment?
After your laser treatment, prevent sun exposure by applying an SPF30+ and reapply if outdoors for extended periods of time. In the first few days after treatment, do not scrub or rinse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleansers. Your technician may advise additional precautions. You will be provided with an aftercare sheet at your first appointment.

Are there side effects?
Permanent side effects are rare and may include redness, swelling, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, blistering and purpura (laser bruise) in the treated area – these usually do not last more than a few days. Your technician will have more information about potential side effects.

Are these treatments covered by insurance?
Most insurance companies do not offer reimbursement for cosmetic procedures. Consult your insurance carrier for conclusive information.
