One of the most effective options in treating pigmentation is through laser rejuvenation. Treatment modalities may vary per person dependent on your specific pigmentation. Concentrated energy wavelengths target the overproduction of melanin, otherwise known as pigmentation, to reveal unblemished skin. The treatment is very effective but does require a physician to assess the lesions prior to determine they are benign.

Do you offer IPL or laser treatment for pigmentation?
We offer pigmentation removal with our GentleMax Pro laser and Perfect Peel treatments. We currently do not offer IPL treatments.

What is the difference between IPL and laser?
IPL or “Intense Pulsed Light” is a light therapy treatment targeting pigmentation or redness. Laser uses a targeted energy to penetrate the pigmentation at a much higher level of intensity and accuracy resulting in less treatments and more effective results.

Can all pigmentation be treated?
We can safely treat benign hyperpigmentation including melasma, freckles, sun damage, age spots, birthmarks, cherry angiomas, hemangioma, port wine stains and redness.

How does hyperpigmentation happen?
Many factors such as sun damage, trauma to the area and hormones may affect the skins’ pigmentation. Hyperpigmentation occurs when our melanocytes (the cells that create our natural pigment or melanin) become overactive and produce too much melanin resulting in a pigmented area.

How many treatments will I need?
Your technician will create a customized treatment plan depending on your specific concerns and history. Most clients require a minimum of 1-3 treatments to see improvement in the area. Individual results will vary.

How long before I see results?
Most clients with see results after each treatment. The results can start to show within the first 4 weeks but may take up to 8-12 weeks for the full result to appear.

Are the results permanent?
Pigmentation that has been treated with laser most likely will not return. However, various factors such as further sun damage, changes in hormones and aging can stimulate new pigmentation. Treatments will not prevent further pigmentation damage from occurring.

Is there anything I need to do before my appointment?
Yes, exfoliating agents such as retinol, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, hydroquinone, etc. must be discontinued 1 week prior to treatment. Sun exposure should be avoided 4 to 6 weeks before and after your treatment.

What can I expect after my treatment?
The treated area will look darker in color following your laser treatment until the sloughing process has finalized. You may also experience redness, swelling at the treatment site and a sunburn-like sensation on the skin for a few hours after treatment.

Is the treatment painful?
Most clients will experience minimal discomfort during the treatment. Numbing agents are not permitted in the treatment area as it can interfere with the efficacy of treatment.
